Doug Holmberg, International's global marketing manager, said boat owners felt "vulnerable" about antifoulings and were never sure what would be compatible with an existing coating.

"So we made Cruiser Uno compatible with all products, " he said. "It goes over anything."

It's a simple solution, said Holmberg, to let people spend their time on the water and not putting on the antifoul. While International says Cruiser Uno is a one coat system that gives a season's protection from one application, the technical specs say it can be overcoated in 10 hours (at 15ºC) and the boat put in the water after another five hours drying.

Cruiser Uno is produced in a choice of five colours, costing £62.95 for a 2.5 litre tin and £22.95 for 750 ml. Marketed as, One Coat, One Choice, One Season, Cruiser Uno is available now from Plastimo and MDM and International promise special POS material, a feature on its website and consumer advertising to back the marketing effort for the trade.
