Port waste facilities
01 Dec 2002
The Department of Transport has released a consultation on the new European Directive on port reception facilities for ship generated waste and cargo residues, which came into force in November 2000.
The British Marine Federation (BMF) says it's likely that the new regulations will come into force in the UK by the end of March 2003 and that the UK will have to amend its existing legislation.
However, the directive provides an exemption for fishing vessels and recreational craft authorised to carry no more than 12 passengers on both of these demands.
The BMF says it is government's view that most marinas will not be affected by these new requirements, but wants to talk to marinas that cater for craft carrying more than 12 passengers.
