BMEA warns on Ship's Radio Licence
01 Jun 2002
Tony Johns, secretary of the British Marine Electronics Association (BMEA) warns that anyone installing or updating transmitting equipment should check the vessel has a valid Ship's Radio Licence.
Carrying out such work on a boat that doesn't have a valid licence can lead to awkward runins with the authorities.
There is a way round the problem, in the form of a Maritime Radio Suppliers Licence, issued by the Radiocommunications Agency.
Johns says any boatyard or organisation that installs radio transmitting equipment should apply for the licence before starting the work.
The Radiocommunications Agency has now posted its Licensing Procedures Manual for Maritime Radio on its website - check it out at www.radio.gov.uk/
