Packaway passerelle
01 Mar 2002
The Dartmouth based distributors and agents for Fantasi, Tartan and C&C Yachts, claim the new passarelle - developed by Nemo in Italy - is as clever as it is compact. A machined, delrin socket is let into the stem deck of the vessel to which it is fitted and, whilst underway, this is all that can be seen.
On reaching port the passerelle is brought up from wherever it has been stowed in its 'folded' state (it is compact enough to be secured unobtrusively to the guard-rail) and the mounting pin is inserted into the socket.
Unfolding the unit enables the stainless steel locking clamps to snap into place, while a pair of 'braced' rigging lines can be attached to the main halyard or topping lift using the fitted shackles for stability. Wheels on the outboard end allow movement on the dockside, eliminating any scraping or wear.
At anchor, the pivot on the inboard end allows it to swing down over the stem of the boat to become a boarding ladder and, with the addition of the 'hook on' extra pair of rungs, bathers can regain even the highest of decks.
The construction is of the highest quality, with a combination of brushed satin aluminium sides, stainless steel hinges and fittings, supporting smooth teak rungs.
Packed the unit measures 650mm x 370mm x 170mm, while the unfolded length provides a very worthwhile 2m gangway/bathing ladder with an extra 300mm when the double stainless bathing step is added.
