Bigger, brighter screen in Simrad's 50 series upgrade

Simrad launched an upgrade to its 50 series of navigation products at Southampton.

The new 52 series is a range of chartplotters, echo sounders, chartsounders and multifunction radars. All have 15" extra bright colour TFT screens with optical glass for daylight visibility.

The new units have been developed as all-in-one systems, says Simrad, eliminating lots of black boxes and the usual mass of cables with unstable hubs.

They say this makes installation considerably easier, more reliable and less expensive.

The 52 series features satellite differential GPS (SDGPS) which uses WAAS or EGNOSS satellite corrected differential GPS. Accuracy of 68 metres is quoted.

For those requiring accuracy of 1-3 metres, land based DGPS can be provided as an option.

Simrad says its advanced chart management system (ACMS) has been incorporated to provide the optimum presentation of the electronic charts at all times and a lollipop function has been incorporated into the radar display to improve waypoint management.
