Glenn Bourke has been appointed chief executive of the Volvo Ocean Race , following the retirement of Helge Alten.

Bourke, an Australian, is a qualified shipwright and naval draughtsman and is no stranger to international yacht racing and campaign management.

With the America's Cup, the Champagne Mumm Admiral's Cup and three times Laser world champion Bourke was also Australian Yachtsman of the Year in 1989 and 1990.He also represented Australia in the Finn class at the 1992 Olympic Games.

More recently he was competition and venue manager for sailing for the Sydney Olympic Organising Committee, after which he became CEO of the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia before heading up the successful illbruck Challenge campaign.

Bourke will relocate permanently to the UK and will be based at race headquarters in Whiteley, Hampshire.

Clipper Ventures Plc , has appointed Loretta Spridgeon has been appointed the Clipper 2002 media and PR manager at Clipper Ventures Plc.

Spridgeon, who lives in Hamble, joins Clipper Ventures from Warsash-based MHL Press & Publicity Ltd.
