More capacity, faster charging

Adverc says it is a fact that a standard alternator and regulator can only recharge a battery to up to 70% state-ofcharge, with 30% of the capacity being lost.

At 50% state-of-charge the battery voltage is approximately 12.2v, but at 100%, it can be 12.8v, so Adverc says an owner can effectively double the battery capacity by using its battery management system.

Its system works on the principle of controlling the charge rather than boosting it.

The system, incorporating cycling voltages, compensates for voltage losses so an owner can split charge using a blocking diode.

The system also compensates for ambient temperature changes - the colder the temperature, the higher the charging voltage and vice versa.

Adverc says its system provides the correct voltage climate at the batteries, without forced feeding, so a heavily discharged battery can probably take the full output from the alternator, whereas at 90% stateof-charge it could probably take as little as 5-6 amps.

The system achieves a rapid and complete restoration of battery charge, as opposed to 60 - 70 % using conventional regulation, says Adverc, giving 2-4 times more available battery capacity, whilst charging 2-3 times faster.
