More cells counter voltage drop, says Ampair

Ringwood-based Ampair launched its new Slimline range of solar panels at Southampton.

The panels are designed to compensate for the voltage drop common in deck mounted solar panel installations, where trapped heat can raise cell temperature.

The Slimline range has 39 cells, as against the standard 36, which, says Ampair, eliminates the need for a gap under the panel.

The extra cells also improve performance in overcast conditions and guarantee top performance in summer heat and hotter latitudes and the panels can be port or starboard mounted to minimise cable run and avoid "shadow" effect.

Ampair says the ultra-low profile of the Slimline range also minimises problems with ropes, sails or crewmembers.

The panels are completely weatherproof, with a marine grade stainless steel backing.

The cable outlet is fully "potted" and screwed to the module.

A textured Teflon coating ensures the panels are non-slip and can be safely walked on, even when drenched with salt water.

The modules can be bent up to 3% (30mm in a one metre module length) to adapt to the curvature of a deck.

They can be attached with Sunware clamps, screwed down or - unlike 36 cell modules, says Ampair - they may be glued over their entire surface without spacers.

There are four models in the range, offering peak power from 35W to 52.5W.
