RYA wins Dibden Bay assurances from ABP

Just days after Associated British Ports (ABP) announced its £1bn investment plans for business development over the next 10 years - including £600m on the proposed Dibden Bay container terminal - the Royal Yachting Association (RYA), said it had received a written assurance from ABP that the future of boating in the area is safe.

As a result, the RYA has withdrawn its objections on recreational boating grounds to the Dibden Bay development.

"Our legal team has done an excellent job in gaining assurances on a number of important issues, " said the RYA's CEO, Rod Carr.

Having received a written assurance from ABP, said Carr, it does not make sense to continue our objection on purely recreational boating grounds, with regard to Southampton Water and the North Channel.

"Ultimately, " he said, "we all need to co-exist on this busy stretch of water."
