Stability and buoyancy standards approved

According to the International Council of Marine Industry Associations (ICOMIA), the standard EN ISO 12217 - 3:2002 Small craft - stability and buoyancy assessment and categorisation - Part 3:

Boats of hull length less than six metres - has been harmonised.

ICOMIA says the standard has been published in the bulletin of the European Standards Organisations Volume 11/6 dated June 2002, which immediately allows boatbuilders throughout the EU to use self-certification (Module A) for Category C boats up to 12 metres.

But ICOMIA's general secretary, Tony Rice, warns it still has to be published in the Official Journal of the EU, which confirms conformity with the essential requirements of the Recreational Craft Directive (RCD), and transposed into member states' national standards.
