Upgraded knife designed for Kevlar fibres
01 Oct 2002
After intensive research, a new "doublesharp" serrated blade edge has been developed by the company in tandem with the industry research association to cut modern Kevlar rope fibres.
Ibberson says it changed the design in response to customers' requirements and a general review of what yachtsmen need nowadays, saying old knife blades could not cope with modern rope technology.
The company says the changes have meant a considerable investment in new tooling and in the powder coating colour process.
The blade now has a sailshaped eyelet to help opening in severe weather condition, replacing the nail niche which made it difficult to prise the blade open with cold hands.
The lockable marlin spike is included and the screwdriver shape on the end of the handle has been improved.
The knife also boasts a mini shackle key and the overall look of the knife has been upgraded with a choice of handle colours in blue, red or stainless finish.
The new knives are made in Sheffield by the Egginton group, which boasts several famous old manufacturing names including Joseph Rodgers and original Bowie knife makers, George Wostenholm.
