Volvo targets 45ft planing boats

Volvo Penta launched its new TAMD75P at Southampton. It's a further development of the TAMD74, which, says Volvo, has been an international bestseller in its power range and one of the company's most successful products.

These engines are generally used in dual installations on planing motorboats of around 45 feet in length.

Features of the new 7-litre TAMD75P include an improved injection system, more efficient charged-air cooling and an enhanced EDC electronic engine control system.

Volvo Penta says the result is lower fuel consumption, reduced exhaust emissions and better operating characteristics, including less sensitivity to heavier loads and a head sea.

Compared with the previous TAMD74P engine, consumption is 5% lower at cruising speed.

Total exhaust emissions have also been reduced.
