Yamaha offers new low emission V6 2-stroke

Yamaha has added a new lowemission 2-stroke in a move the company says makes clear its continuing commitment to innovation in low-emission 2-stroke technology.

The new unit is the HPDI 250, with the acronym standing for high pressure direct injection (HPDI). According to Yamaha, the system has been thoroughly tested and has been so successful commercially, that the company claims its HPDI models to be the most reliable direct injection 2-strokes in the world.

The main difference, says Yamaha, is in the higher level of pressure at which the fuel is injected. This gives a larger power output, while maintaining the combustion efficiency that gives the other Yamaha HPDI engines their performance, economy and reliability.

The HPDI 250 burns less fuel more cleanly, but Yamaha says it has lost none of the 2-stroke power-to-weight performance and aggressive acceleration, but delivers it more smoothly.

The unit is a 3342cc, 76infinity V6 two-stroke delivering 183.9kW (5000rpm) at the propshaft. Its full throttle rpm range is 45005500rpm.
