Big sales increase gives Suzuki 2002 top spot

Recently published ICOMIA export figures for 2002 give Suzuki a clear European lead in the rapidly growing 115140hp outboard motor sector, says the company.

Year-end total sales reached 2,258 units, representing an overall market share of 27.5% and a 38.1% share of 4-stroke sales - the only area in which Suzuki have an interest.

Top spot was achieved in seven leading European countries - France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Austria, Greece, and Portugal.

Suzuki's sales were increased by over 200% compared to the previous year thanks to the highly successful launch of the DF140, which joined the DF115 introduced in 2001. Both achieved immediate success, meeting boat owners demands for lightweight, compact electronic fuel injected 4-strokes.

"The success of our dealers across Europe was complemented by the introduction of Suzuki powered boat package ranges by Beneteau/Jeanneau/Zodiac/ Avon and many other boat builders" says Masa Shimizu, head of Suzuki European Marine Sales.

We are confident that sales will improve still further in 2003 and the introduction of our new V6, 200, 225 and 250hp 4-strokes in 2004 will confirm Suzuki's reputation as the leader in "Big 4-stroke" power, he added.
