Novel material for high performance composite parts

Advanced Composites Group says selective, striped impregnation of the fibre reinforcements (or multiple layers) retains the fabric's excellent inherent drape characteristics, while introducing both inter and intra ply air transport paths.
This material format, they say, speeds up and generally de-skills the lay-up process compared to traditional fully impregnated products, as well as removing the need for lengthy de-bulking cycles.
Ultimately, they say, ZPREG facilitates the production of high performance, high quality finish and low void content components avoiding the compromises required with other multi-layer systems and standard prepregs.
ZPREG can be formatted to meet any number of specific processing and performance profiles for tooling and components. The ACG resin technology used in ZPREG (LTM310 for tooling and VTM260 for components) gives a broad processing window from 65infinityC to 150infinityC and allows low temperature initial cure of very large structures on relatively simple patterns.
The step ahead Tg allows freestanding post cure if required, or very fast turn round of smaller components at higher temperature from the same resin system.
Reinforcements can be single or multi-layered and fibre type or configuration combined as necessary to meet customer requirements.
Advanced Composites Group says it has developed ZPREG for vacuum bag processing, but its handling characteristics can similarly enhance autoclave, pressure bag and press moulding operations.
Advanced Composites Group Ltd has been supplying composite prepreg materials for over 25 years to the motorsport industry and now supplies a comprehensive range of prepreg, adhesive and ancillary products to all composite markets.
