Shoes get stickier soles
01 Apr 2003
Designated GripDeck 2, Musto says the new outsole has an extremely low softness modulus compared with other high performance deck shoes.
Formulated from 65% natural rubber, combined with silicates and mineral oils, Musto says the new outsole is noticeably stickier to the touch.
Musto says grip on wet or dry decks - tested on all common deck surfaces - has been maximised with a footprint area designed to optimise surface contact.
Wide and deep longitudinal drainage channels help stop aquaplaning, while cross-foot channels create flex zones, enabling the sole to articulate freely with the foot.
The GripDeck 2 sole - used here on Musto's Grand Prix mesh deck shoe - is further enhanced by undulated razor cuts in the toe/ball of foot area, they say, which give over 1500 edge grips on a size 8 shoe, when subjected to angled pressure.
The sole has been extensively trialled in New Zealand, northern European and Caribbean racing, with glowing testimonials from the GBR crew.
