The Sealegs RIB has landed?

It's nice to see that the New Zealand boatbuilding industry is recovering well from its disastrous showing in the America's Cup with this innovative craft from Sealegs International Ltd.

Sealegs Explorer is described as a high performance, 4.7m amphibious runabout that can be driven in and out of the water, eliminating the need for a trailer or towing vehicle.

At the touch of a button, its three wheels can be lowered or raised and tucked away, just like the undercarriage of a plane, it says here.

But, say the builders, unlike other amphibious vehicles, Sealegs Explorer is first and foremost a safe, highly manoeuvrable marine craft, with no sacrifice to its water performance characteristics to accommodate its ability on land.

It has a top speed, on water, of 60km/h (37mph) making it ideal for water skiing or hispeed search and rescue work, while on land it can travel, either reverse or forward, at up to 10km/h (6mph).

No UK distributor is named, so anyone interested should contact the designer, Maurice Bryham, email: Maurice@sealegs.co.nz Web: www.sealegs.co.nz
