Walker Bay launches RID

Walker Bay Boats, distributed by Marathon leisure in the UK, is launching what it claims is the world's most innovative Rigid Inflatable Dinghy (RID) line.

Walker Bay says the RID has a unique Variable Profile Design tube (VPD) that varies in diameter and shape to engage with the water only when the load is increased or shifts.

Under moderate conditions the tubes remain clear of the water, allowing the streamlined displacement hull to cut through the water efficiently.

According to the company, the tubes enable the boat to take more people and provide increased lateral stability, while not compromising the boat's performance when rowing, motoring, sailing or towing.

Each boat comes equipped with hydrocurve oars that, they say, provide a smooth powerful stroke and the sail kits have been designed for maximum sailing enjoyment.

The boats are built using Walker Bay's proprietary High Impact Marine Composite (HIMC) resin, making the hull extremely durable with no seams or joints to crack and leak.

The inflatable tubes lie protected below the gunwale and above the ground so it can be dragged up a rocky beach or flipped over onto roof racks without damaging the tubes.

The tubes have a three-layer Maxibond gluing process for seam joints and is UV treated.

Made from ultra strong 1100 Decitex fabric, Walker bay says each tube has multi-chambers for increased safety and is Coast Guard certified.

The lightweight RID comes with a wheel in the keel, making it easy for one person to handle, and there are four heavy duty lifting handles.

Stainless steel lifting eyes are located on the stern and bow seats to hoist the boat on davits and a stainless steal bow eye makes for easy towing. Additional features include three internal seats with positive floatation, a motor mount and a one-way drain plug.

The company says all Walker Bay boats meet European CE safety standards. They are easy to assemble and come with a five year limited warranty.

The RID 9 has a three-person capacity and can support a 4hp engine, it will retail for about £899. The RID 10 has a fourperson capacity and can support a 6hp engine, it will retail for about £1199. Available sailing kits start from £469.
