Production run in carbon

One week after being launched, the Shipman 50 won its first race. What is newsworthy about this is that the boat is claimed to be the first carbon production sailing boat.

The Slovenian Seaway Group launched the J&J designed Shipman 50 in June.

The boat was built using SP Systems' SPRINT carbonepoxy resin infusion technique and is, says Seaway, the first sailing boat built using these materials and foam for hull, deck, bulkheads and all structural parts.

The Shipman 50 was developed for the Danish company Shipman Holding and Seaway says it spent two years testing and building preproduction mock-ups before the first of what the company hopes will be a production run.

The composite parts come from female moulds, saving time and cost, aiding the hopes of production runs. The boat, naturally, steps a carbon rig.
