Concept Boat winner

The first Concept Boat competition, run by the British Marine Federation (BMF) in conjunction with the Royal Institution of Naval Architects was won by a New Zealander, Gray Treadwell.

He was presented with his £5,000 winner's prize at Earls Court by Atlantic rower, Debra Veal. Treadwell's boat - Jasmin - is a four berth sailing catamaran that folds up for easy transportation.

Concept Boat 2003 is already under way - the first entry has already been received at the BMF - and entrants are asked to come up with a design that encourages a new waterborne activity, satisfies a previously unfulfilled need, or that is a significant advance on an existing craft designed for the same use.
