Mercury MerCruiser units change for CMD

Mercury MerCruiser diesel engines, now being marketed by the Cummins/Mercury joint venture ( see story above )company, Cummins MerCruiser Diesel, are being renamed with a series of numbers and letters to show displacement, type of fuel system, sterndrive or inboard, and crankshaft horsepower.
The D1.7L DTI Alpha becomes the 1.7 MS 120, indicating that its capacity is 1.7 litres, it has a mechanical fuel system, is a sterndrive, and produces 120hp (89.5kW) at the crankshaft.
Another example is the D4.2L D-Tronic inboard, now renamed 4.2 EI 250, denoting a 4.2 litre diesel, with electronic fuel injection, inboard configuration and developing 250hp (186kW) at the crank.
