A good year for Pike

The Fast Boat Operations Manual for the United States Coast Guard is a book that covers all aspects of highspeed boat operations.

This is thought to be the first book of its kind and it benefits from the 40 years of fast boat experience of Dag Pike, senior partner of Stroud, Gloucestershire-based, Dag Pike Associates (DPA).

"Over the years we have learnt a huge amount about the design, driving and operation of fast boats from practical experience", commented Pike.

"This book was written to the specific requirements of the Coast Guard but we are also looking to offer this type of manual writing to other military and para-military authorities."

Among its other contracts, DPA has also produced reports on pilothouse design and the health and safety aspects of yacht designs for a major Italian yacht builder and will also be advising on navigation for a record attempt on the 1000 mile Mississippi Run from St Louis to New Orleans.

The company also continues to work on court cases, where it provides expert witness testimony on civil and criminal cases involving fast boats, RIBs and navigation.

"We are seeing an increasing number of court cases that involve the health and safety aspects of yacht operation, " commented Pike.
