Bombardier's Evinrude NBOE
01 Jul 2003
Bombardier Recreational Products has launched a range of Evinrude nongasoline burning outboard engines (NBOE).
Developed for use by armed forces, the first shipment of Evinrude 30hp direct injection submersible engines will be delivered to the US Navy in July 2003.
The engines will run on JP-5, JP-8 and Jet A fuels, heating oil, diesel fuel, #1 kerosene and gasoline. They are submersible to 200ft, can be started by rope without a battery and have an operating range quoted as +20 to +120ºF.
The move to non-gasoline fuels was dictated by the US Department of Defense, which has instituted a single-fuel initiative. Under the initiative, tansporting gasoline aboard its ships and aircraft will be banned by 2010.
