The lifejacket problems highlighted to commercial seafarers by MCA Aberdeen a few weeks ago have turned up in quantity in the leisure sector, writes Mike Balmforth .
The RNLI carried out safety regulation compliance checks at the recent Bell Lawrie Scottish Series, and found 40 lifejackets with loose, detached, or corroded inflation cylinders out of a total of 100 yachts inspected.
This is an alarming failure rate, especially as it was spread across the full spectrum of makes and types.
