Latch made as boat owners want
01 Jul 2003
So the company set out to develop a latch that offers simple pull to open/slam to close operation, housed in a small, round package.
They say its flush, slightly rounded surface eliminates the possibility of bumping or snagging clothing on it.
Dufour carried out the Beta trials, subjecting the latch to rigorous testing and reporting back to Southco.
The result was a smooth knob design that incorporated a pawl and keeper that biases the door closed when the knob is extended. The design helps prevent accidental opening of the door.
Southco says a slight pull on the knob overcomes the detent, allowing the door to pen.
The door can then be slammed shut and depressing the knob securely latches the door.
