The courses were run as part of Barrus' 2003 service training programme for its national network of Mariner and Mercury dealers.

Barrus runs training courses at its headquarters in Bicester, Oxon, and at various dealer premises around the UK including, for the first time this year, a venue in Enniskillen for Northern and southern Ireland dealers.

The courses, run by marine leisure service manager Tim Bennett, cater for new engineers/apprentices and experienced service personnel and cover subjects such as a 2003 model update course, an OptiMax course, a PDI/OBM installation course, a 4-stroke EFI course, a fault diagnosis course, a gearcase overhaul course and a week's outboard motor course.

Alwyn Rolands says service personnel from Dulas Boat & Caravan Company, Anglesey, have been attending the courses for over 12 years.

"The Barrus training courses are essential in keeping in touch with new products and technology, " he said. "The courses are practical and hands-on and the numbers in each course are kept to a sensible number which benefits everyone."
