Crick hailed a family success

This year's Crick Boat Show - held over the May bank holiday, May 24-26 - has been hailed an enormous success and is considered the best ever in terms of visitor numbers and enthusiasm, according to the British Marine Federation (BMF).

Visitor figures are not yet confirmed, but are expected to be close to 30,000, a huge increase on last year's 21,000 visitors.

The BMF says more families attended this year's event, taking advantage of the strong presence of children's activities.

Over 450 people stepped on board working boats Atlas and Leo and another 1000 children took part in children's activities as part of British Waterways' WOW scheme on Saturday alone. Organisers said it took all three days to reach this figure last year.

The BMF had an increased presence at the show with a bigger stand that attracted many visitors. Staff on the stand gave away over 3,000 balloons featuring the BMF logo, ensuring the brand was very visual.

"It was a great show and I can see why so many of our members exhibit at Crick, " said John Clarke, BMF chief executive. "The three days provided us with a good opportunity to speak to our members and also the public, to explain to them who we are, what we do and the services we provide."
