Danforth compass does balancing act

Danforth has introduced a compass with GLOBALBalance Dial System, which guarantees, says the company, a perfectly level dial anywhere in the world.

The patent-pending technology means balancing of dials for specific geographic locations is now a thing of the past and a boat destined for use in southern latitude balancing zones will not have to have a special card.

The company says boatbuilders benefit by the elimination of multiple balance-related SKUs. One model now replaces several.

With the Danforth GLOBALBalance system, the dial remains level no matter where the yacht is destined and no "special balancing" models are required.

In addition, they say, the exclusive Danforth dial design guarantees rock-steady, nospin performance, even in the toughest sea conditions.

On a front-reading card the magnet is mounted in a buoyant chamber that pivots on a frictionless knife-edge, allowing it to tilt independently of the printed card, which remains level. The inner no-spin float dips with the card magnet, while the outer skirt with the graduations remains level.

On flat and dual-reading cards the magnets are mounted low relative to the pivot point, which reduces the tilting torque exerted in the card.

Now standard in all 2 5/8'' (67mm) Skipper, 3 3/8'' (85mm) Cruiser, 3 3/4'' (95mm) Corsair IV and 4 1/2'' (115mm) Constellation compass models, the new GLOBALBalance system is available in a choice of dial colours - black, blue, red or white. A range of styles is also on offer - flat-read, front-read or dual-read.

All model numbers remain the same.
