HMG coating enhances teak

HMG Paints say some owners opt for the natural untreated look of teak, with its white bleached-out appearance, some prefer regular applications of teak oil, while others favour the silken sheen of yacht varnish.

An alternative, says HMG, is its Propodec Teak & Wood Finish, a protective, microporous alkyd coating suitable for all hardwoods and softwoods.

They say it's long lasting and less effort to apply than oil or varnish and was developed to enhance and preserve the natural beauty of wood.

The coating has been proven in the hot Florida sun and the driving British rain, so is suitable for all marine environments, they say.

Propodec is designed to be applied directly onto uncoated teak or other timber, with no pre-treatment or primer required or desired.

HMG says the paint's special blend of solvents allows deep penetration of the coating into the grain, enhancing the organic properties of wood and retaining the essential nonslip properties of teak decking.

Propodec is offered in clear and a range of translucent wood stain colours and, being microporous, it allows moisture vapour to escape from the wood, resisting the flaking, peeling and cracking which can occur with traditional coatings that can't breathe.

They say it also provides outstanding protection against water absorption, dry rot, mildew and other invasive organisms, far outlasting normal teak oils.
