MDL gives Northney £750,000 facelift
01 Jun 2003
The building is part of a package of upgrades MDL is putting place at Northney in a £750,000 facelift that, according to outgoing managing director, John Watson, will complement the extensive facilities and services already in place such as 24 hour security, open yard policy, 35-ton boat hoist and modernised slipway.
The 426m 2facilities building has ladies and gents showers and toilets which will be illuminated by an environmentally considerate movement sensitive lighting system, plus purpose-designed disabled facilities and a launderette.
The toilets show thoughtful touches, such as extra full length mirrors in the ladies toilets and the removal of one cubicle to allow greater space for baby changing facilities.
The family is at the forefront of marina manager Mike Smith's mind. "I want to make Northney the kind of place the families will enjoy, " he said, indicating the children's toys, the barbeque and the bike hire with guides to local sights.
And Smith has set his sights on further expansion and hopes to open a bar and restaurant soon.
"The new facilities building will mark a new chapter in Northney Marina's history, " he said. "It's a clear indication of the direction the marina will be heading in the future."
