People get afloat at Boats on Show
01 Jun 2003
This year's show put on new events and activities such as the boat jumble, a boat rally on the river, a fairground and other family attractions such as Captain Rowlock and Unable Seaman Bilge - who performed their unique Clown Boat Safety Show.
More than 100 exhibitors, with some travelling from as far afield as Belgium (Chocolino), Ireland (Quayside Marina) and Tyne and Wear (Tyne Slipway), enjoyed the show, which attracted national interest as well as local boatbuilders, chandlery and marine services and local Thames boating companies such as Clam Boats (Maidenhead), Salter Brothers Ltd (Oxford) and Taggs Boatyard Ltd (Thames Ditton).
The show also hosted the regional finals of the RYA/Honda Youth RIB Challenge, with British Canoe Union races on the Sunday.
Around 126 children enjoyed the activities put on by the children's organisation Wild Over Waterways (WOW), which was sponsored by the Agency to put on kids entertainment on Saturday and Sunday.
Boats on Show was organised by Boats on Show Ltd and supported by the Environment Agency, Thames Boating Trades Association (TBTA), NABO, the Thames Hire Cruisers Association (THCA) and MDL Marinas.
