Boats on Show expands for 2003
01 Mar 2003
Boatbuilders and craftsmen, chandlery and craft stalls and the Try-A-Boat scheme are being expanded across the site on the lakes and the river.
New for 2003, say organisers, will be the boat jumble, a boat rally on the river, free trips on a Thames passenger boat, a fairground and other family attractions, including free starter sessions in boat handling and boat safety.
The RYA/Honda Youth RIB Challenge regional finals will also take place on the lake during the show.
"The show provides an excellent display space for those who would not think of exhibiting at the bigger shows, particularly those building more traditional craft, " said Mike Shefras, Boats on Show organiser.
Stand sales are ahead of target and well in advance of last year, he said. We have had generous support from the Thames Boating Trades Association and others to expand Try-A-Boat.
"Boats on Show 2003 is a great showcase for the Thames and the south of England, with probably the largest variety of craft on display of any of the boat shows, " said Eileen McKeever, Thames waterway manager at show sponsor the Environment Agency.
