Here's longing for summer

HFL says an effective air conditioner will remove heat and moisture and replace it with cool, refreshing air.

Ideally, it will also be quiet, efficient and powerful.

The company's new CoolMaxx Compact does all of the above, they say.

The cooling process begins when cabin heat is absorbed by R407C, a non-ozonedepleting refrigerant that flows through sealed pipes.

The heat is then transferred into the seawater, which is discharged overboard. The CoolMaxx has a high rimmed drain pan to hold condensate - reducing spillage under seagoing conditions.

The unit's blower housing is made of fibreglass to avoid the usual problems of corrosion and deterioration of paint. The blower uses roller bearings for quiet running and is designed to discharge air vertically and horizontally without a Y-piece.

The compressor is cradlemounted, converting vertical forces into horizontal ones to balance vibrations. The rotary compressors have low starting currents and a shroud made of reinforced plastic, which quiets the compressor noise.

The unit's electrical connections are easy to complete and the entire setup can be finished in approximately four hours.

HFL says the CoolMaxx Compact fits under almost any seat or berth, but can also be installed in the bilge, with its flexible air duct routed upwards.

A rounded base tray also adds to the ease of installation.
