Royal Clarence Marina opens

Royal Clarence Marina opens for business this month. Built on the site of the Royal Navy's former victualling yard in Gosport, the marina is close to the entrance to Portsmouth Harbour and the Solent.

The marina is part of the £100 million refurbishment of Royal Clarence Yard by Berkeley Homes Plc.

Residents have already moved into some of the 390 homes and, when complete, the complex will boast offices, workshops, waterfront restaurants and bars. There are also plans for a health club and cinema.

The timber decked pontoons range in length from 11 to 18 metres, and all have power and water points nearby. The marina has 24 hour security and berths will be available on annual licences from April 1, 2003.

Ashore there are showers and toilets nearby and bars and restaurants are planned for the Grade 2 listed buildings on the waterfront, to be in operation for the 2004 season.

Berthing rates will be in keeping with other marinas within Portsmouth Harbour, says the company.

The two central jetties provide over 200 metres of alongside berthing and are available for maritime events such as the Cutty Sark Tall Ships' Races and other marine spectaculars. These berths will also be available for club rallies and events as well as visiting yachtsmen on an overnight or short stay basis.
