Satcoms without line of sight to satellite
01 Mar 2003
The products will enable users to send and receive calls, faxes and data whilst working below deck, without requiring direct line of sight to the Thuraya satellite.
SatCom says the user simply locks the Thuraya phone into the Satel docking station, then connects and positions the external GPS and Thuraya satellite antennas with the included cabling.
As soon as the unit is connected to mains power (110-240 V/50-60 Hz) the docking station is ready to send and receive voice, fax and data services.
Whilst in the docking station, the battery of the hand-held Thuraya will also be charged.
The Thuraya system provides users with voice, fax, data, short messaging (SMS) and GPS services to 99 countries spanning Europe, North and Central Africa, The Middle East, Central Asia and the Indian subcontinent.
The lightweight, dual-mode, hand-held phones can roam freely in areas covered by GSM providers with roaming agreements, while satellite mode covers regions within the Thuraya footprint with no GSM coverage.
The Satel Docking Station, complete with marine antenna retails at £349.00 + VAT.
