Worm gear synchronisation solution

US company Wells Marine Technology says many boat builders have switched from hydraulic to worm gear motors to lift heavy engine deck hatches.

But, says the company, the weight of the hatch often requires two worm gear motors and both must be synchronised when it's raised or lowered, or expensive damage to the hatch may occur.

Wells says its Hatch-Back is a simple, single-pole switching system to synchronise worm gear hatch lift motors.

The unit can mounted and wired into multiple control switch locations in about 10 minutes, enabling a hatch to be operated from virtually anywhere on a boat.

According to the company, Hatch-Back not only helps boatbuilders reduce labour costs, it takes risk out of the wiring process.

The installation package includes heavy-duty stainless hardware, terminal insulating covers, two control switches, a complete wiring diagram and operating instructions.
