Nighy and Hartz share medal
01 May 2003
The award is made each year by the Royal Institution of Naval Architects Small Craft Committee, which this year chose to honour both men for their outstanding contribution to the development of standards for the Small Craft industry, standards essential for the implementation of the Recreational Craft Directive.
A former technical director at the British Marine Federation, Nighy is a past member of the council of RINA and chairman of its Small Craft Committee, during which time he made a valuable contribution to the work of the Institution.
Trevor Blakeley, chief executive of RINA, praised Nighy for his contributions: "Tom has been involved for many years in the implementation of European directives, regulations and exemplifying standards for small craft. He has been at the forefront at establishing and coordinating advisory panels which have ensured that the naval architect is effectively represented in dialogue with the government and other organisations."
Fritz Hartz, who sadly passed away in November 2002, was represented at the awards ceremony by his son.
