Lewmar thrusts

Lewmar has launched two new thrusters into its TT range; the 250TTH and the 300TTH. The "H" stands for hydraulic and the addition of the two new units will expand the electric-powered TT range into bigger boats.

The hydraulic TTs are, says Lewmar, the perfect solution for larger vessels that need longer duration of operation.

Taking their power from an engine take-off or auxiliary generator pump, the 250TTH is suitable for craft to 80ft (25m) and the 300TTH for craft up to 95ft (30m).

The TT range, initially aimed at the OEM market, offers a number of innovations in a product area in which differentiation has been increasingly hard to achieve, says Lewmar.

Installation time is significantly reduced, they say, through a unique "cassette" seal which allows the hub (gearbox) to be installed without the need for installation of a separate oil reservoir. A splined drive dispenses with the need for problematic drive pins, and an improved saddle design helps reduce fitting time.

Maintenance is also said to be significantly easier: the cassette seal eliminates contamination and leaks and therefore the need for oil top-ups.

Both new thrusters use Lewmar's 5-blade propellers, developed using 3D CAD technology and proven in tank tests.

Lewmar says the twin counter-rotating design gives superior performance and quiet operation with less turbulence and improved water flow.
