Show cancelled after venue destroyed

The Marine Electronics Show, set to run on November 1 and 2, has been cancelled after the venue, the National Motor - cycle Museum, was destroyed by fire last month.

Our picture shows just about all that remains of Britain's motorcycle heritage - damage estimated at some £15m was caused by a discarded cigarette.

According to the Fire Brigade, the dog-end set fire to some discarded litter. The fire then spread into the museum's roof void and started destroying the museum from the inside.

The fire was only discovered when the ceiling to the BSA exhibition in Hall 4 collapsed, by which time the Fire Brigade says the fire was impossible to stop.

The electronics show - the 7th run by Bristol-based Marine Electronic Services - will run again next year, says MES, at a date and venue to be announced.
