MDM trade show an all-round hit
01 Apr 2004
"We wanted to get people to Oxford so they could see what's behind MDM, " said Mark Dowland. "As part of the Unipart Group, we have the backing of Europe's leading independent supplier of logistics, automotive parts and accessories and wanted to show the leisure marine industry exactly what they get when they deal with MDM."
The facilities at Oxford are impressive. And while MDM's own dedicated warehouse is in Coventry, the Oxford site includes the original BMC stores, which now form a 1,000,000 sq ft warehouse for Unipart's distribution operations for clients such as Jaguar, Land Rover, MG Rover, BAA, LTI, JCB, Halfords, Boots, Homebase, Hewlett Packard, Vodafone, Agilent, Bull, Xerox, Phillips Medical, 3, AA, Ford, ATS, Siemens Transportation and Kwik Fit.
In 2000, the Unipart Group's turnover reached £1.5 billion and it's now one of the largest privately owned companies in Britain.
The 33 MDM suppliers - five from overseas - showed their wares to 120 visitors. "Over 90% of the visitors took advantage of our extra discounts to order at the show, " said MDM marketing manager, Andrew Watson.
"Next year's event will be even bigger."
