SailForce teams with Gardners Books

Independent marine sales company SailForce has teamed up with Eastbourne-based Gardners Books in what they claim is a significant move on the leisure marine market by the UK's largest wholesale book supplier.

A family-run company since 1986, Gardners has established itself as the largest book wholesaler in the country, servicing over 15,000 customers worldwide from the company's 350,000 sq ft custom built facility on the South Coast. With over 330,000 titles in stock at any one time Gardners achieve a fulfilment rate of over 95% with a next day service six days a week.

Gardners Books act on behalf of over 2,500 publishers, including all the well known marine specialists such as Adlard Coles, Fernhurst and Imray Laurie.

Mike Hall says the SailForce team is no stranger to the marine book sector, having previously held key posts with Simpson Lawrence which, until the sale of the company in 2000, was the UK's foremost trade nautical book supplier.

"Ever since the demise of Simpson Lawrence the supply situation on books and charts has been somewhat fragmented, " said Hall. "Gardners Books is a top end distribution company and their overall customer focus and logistical expertise, along with additional features such as overnight home delivery and web site services, will very quickly establish them in our industry."

Hall says SailForce will be adding further sales resource and new appointments will be made in the near future as part of a wider program of expansion.

He promised the first Marine and Nautical Book Catalogue from Gardners will be available in time for the start of the 2004 season.
