AINA asks for help on BSS
01 Aug 2004
The consultation follows collaboration over the past 18 months with stakeholder groups represented on the BSS support committees and the AINA says it is now seeking a wider representation of views.
AINA, which has 30 member organisations including British Waterways, the Environment Agency and the Broads Authority, will be sending sets of consultations papers to nearly 200 organisations between now and the closing date of September 30.
"The consultation paper sets out in detail AINA's proposals for modernising the BSS including revised legal requirements concerning vessels that are both privately owned and privately managed, " said Ian White, chairman of AINA, in his introduction.
The aim of the modernisation is to provide for the efficient and effective management of those risks introduced by vessels that have been inadequately equipped or maintained and to guide vessel owners on matters of risk avoidance, he added.
