Inventure: down but not out

The disabled sailing charity The Inventure Trust suffered a setback when the rig collapsed on its 60ft Walker Wingsail trimaran en route to a London fundraising launch.

Early on June 19, as Inventure was motorsailing in light winds into the Thames estuary, the crew heard a loud bang; shortly after, the aerofoil rig collapsed.

Once the debris was cut away Inventure was escorted into Ramsgate Harbour, as seen here.

There were no injuries to the skipper and three crew. The trust manager said: "We're investigating the cause and have carried out repairs to allow Inventure to operate as a motor vessel."

Our charter programme is going ahead, he added, although naturally there's disappointment that we won't be sailing.

Inventure came to prominence in 2001 when trust founder, disabled former RAF pilot Trevor Jones, became the first quadriplegic to sail around the UK.
