Quick plumbing with Speedfit
01 Aug 2004
Once cut using a pipe cutter, the end is simply pushed into a fitting. A unique locking system made up of stainless steel teeth then grips the pipe while an "O" ring provides a permanent leak proof seal.
A twist of a screw cap locks the pipe in position.
The company says with over 150 items in the range, Speedfit caters for any possible plumbing situation from small boats through to large craft.
The system's flexibility means it can be threaded through concealed or inaccessible spaces and it can be disconnected and reconfigured without the need for replacement parts.
They say another unique feature of Speedfit is a special Superseal Pipe Insert with its own "O" ring that gives a secondary seal against the inside of the fitting. A good connection is made without relying on the main 0 ring sealing around the surface of the pipe.
This means any score marks on the outside diameter of the pipe will not unduly affect the integrity of the watertight connection.
Speedfit Barrier Pipe is extruded from high density cross linked polyethylene with an oxygen barrier sandwiched between the inner and outer layers of polyethylene. The barrier minimises the ingress of oxygen through the wall of the pipe, improving efficiency and preventing corrosion of the system's metal components.
John Guest says being light and easy to handle with a low intrinsic value of the raw material also makes the product less vulnerable to pilferage.
The plastic pipe has a low thermal conductivity, which means that when carrying hot water, it is safer to touch than copper. Relatively low heat loss through radiation also means that water retains its heat longer and delivers hot water quicker and with less wastage than with metal systems.
Speedfit Products are manufactured to British Standard BS7291 Parts 1 and 3 and are kitemarked.
