Anodes with a wear indicator

Performance Metals is a US company run by Martin Wigg, an Englishman from Bolton.

And he came up with an idea to make sacrificial anodes exciting that won the company a DAME award for innovation.

The company manufactures premium aluminium Wear Indicator Anodes. Each anode has a luminous, bright red spot that will show when the anode is in need of replacement. It's bright enough to be spotted without having to haul the boat out. Simple.

And to help owners find their products on the chandlery shelves, the company puts its anodes in bright yellow packaging.

The company says the anodes are made from a special aluminium alloy that provides a greater potential difference for cathodic protection of shafts, trim tabs/rudders and hulls/ strainers. The anodes are also available for Mercury aluminium outdrives.

They say the aluminium anodes are "2 1/2 times" lighter than zinc, provide better protection and are environmentally friendly.

The company's international sales director, John Scott, is also English and works out of Crowborough in East Sussex.
