High performance engine mount
01 Feb 2004
Designated Metalastik Cushyfloat HD (high deflection), the mounting incorporates a captive rubber element configured to provide linear deflection from 1mm to 7mm, after which the mount becomes progressively stiffer.
Trellborg says the high longitudinal stiffness enables each mount to withstand propeller thrust, which makes it possible for boatbuilders to omit thrust bearings and keep the drive line as short as possible.
Rebound control is achieved by a rod acting against the inner surface of the base casting. This, says the company, will accommodate 3G and is more than enough to control the typical roll angles of sailing boats - up to 45infinity.
Cushyfloat HD is available in standard and high thrust versions and a variety of rubber compounds to accommodate vertical loads from 25 to 120kgs per mount.
Upper and lower castings are of seawater-resistant aluminium.
The mount is interchangeable with many other common types and a data sheet is available giving performance values for the guidance of users. The company's applications engineering team is also available to offer advice on mount selection.
