The redesigned generators are targeted at pleasure yachts, but Kohler says they can easily handle commercial applications.

An extensive housing redesign has drastically reduced sound levels. The redesign includes improved ducting and gasketing/sealing to eliminate line-of-sight noise, while loaded barrier foam, which is acoustically superior in absorbing the sound energy, replaced the standard foam used in earlier designs. The improved sound shields are offered as an option for the 832 RW diesel generators.

The new generators are powered by Yanmar engines, which are CARB Tier-II emission compliant. Kohler says the Yanmar engine also features dramatic design improvements that resulted in a 3 dB(A) reduction and less vibration.

The company says it has never offered more advanced microprocessor controllers on its marine generators. The advanced digital control (ADC) is a standard feature, delivering more precise voltage and frequency regulation for today's sophisticated boating electronics.

The ADC also offers enhanced diagnostic and monitoring information in an easier-to-read format, displaying kW, battery voltage, oil pressure, engine hours, run conditions, and system-fault conditions.

With the OEM in mind, Kohler says its sound shields are designed with fewer components and a new dropover assembly to make the generators easier to install. All connection points are now easily accessible and a new quarter-turn fastener and pin roof allows the user easier access to the generator.

The generators include a fiveyear or 2,000-hour limited, transferable warranty effective from the date of purchase by the original end user. Marine generators used for commercial and boat rental applications are covered under a one-year or 2,000-hour warranty.

The new line of 8-32 kW diesel marine generator sets be available globally early this year.
