Less than hansom cabs

But most of these minicabs seemed to be the clapped-out family Sierra driven by a bloke who'd left the wife and kids watching Eastenders while he took the family saloon out to score a few extra quid off the easy-to-ripoff out of towners needing to get away from the bleak wastes of Docklands.
We did try to warn you all about these minicabs, but we fell foul of them ourselves and had a few "discussions" with cab drivers.
One cabbie attempted to charge us £17 for the trip from the Britannia Hotel to ExCeL - a black cab trip costing £10 to £12. He had to settle for the tenner we gave him.
And these cars are unlicensed.
So they may have private hire insurance AT BEST. At worst, they are completely uninsured for normal road use, let alone use as a public hire vehicle.
We all know the ramifications of being involved in an accident in an uninsured vehicle.
But at midnight after a few beers, it's very hard to refuse to get into a car offering to take you where you want to go.
