Where's the wind?
01 Feb 2004
The hall is too confined, so the breeze began to eddy almost as soon as it left the fans, so much so that there was not enough wind in the middle of the pool to make the boards work.
Taking out a bank of seats opposite the fans helped a little, but not enough to make it work as intended.
NBS has already had airflow specialists in and a lot of development will be done before next year. Part of the problem, of course, was the lack of time following the migration of water from the pool to the car park. This cut four valuable practise days off the schedule so the shows were all seat of the pants affairs.
But the windsurfers - a stubborn bunch - refused to give up. After initial failures to get up the ramp and airborne in the jumping show, they stuck at it until they somehow made it work and made it into a real crowd pleasing spectacle.
I can't wait to see next year's shows.
