BB and YM revive the Marine Industry Regatta

The Marine Industry Regatta is set for a comeback on the second Wednesday after Easter this year.

We reckoned Easter would be spent putting everyone's boats in the water. The week and weekend after Easter would be spent bolting back on all the bits that fell off, leaving the following Wednesday - April 21 - free for a bit of racing and doing some good for charity.

So Boating Business and Yachting Monthly got together and had a chat with Sunsail.

And we have 20 Jeanneau Sun Fast 37s standing by at Port Solent. As we went to press, 10 boats were promised, with another two companies "thinking seriously" about it.

And there's one all-women challenge looking for a little help to fund their challenge.

The cost will be £650 per boat and that includes boat charter, insurance, breakfast, lunch and a drink for all the crew, plus the prizegiving.

The charity element is a donation from the entry fee to the John Merricks Sailing Trust that helps young sailors progress in sailing.

We leave Port Solent at 08.00 and have breakfast on the way out to the start. We sail four races starting at 10.00 and stopping for lunch at 12.30.

The best three will count for the top prize and there will be a few more prizes thrown in.

BB will put up a trophy.

Yachting Monthly will put up a trophy and Sunsail will put up a trophy.

We haven't decided what each trophy will be for yet, but we'll come up with some suitable ideas.

We reckon to hand the boats back around 1700 and have the prizegiving in Portsmouth Harbour Yacht Club soon after.

Those companies that have expressed a firm intention of taking part include: Aqua Marine, Barton Marine Equipment, boats. com, boatmatch.

com, Boating Business , Lewmar (two boats), Raymarine, Saltwater Communications and Yachting Monthly . Add two thinking about it and the all-girl challenge and we should soon get our 20 boats with ease.

We 'll try to find berths for any individuals who want to take part at a cost of £85 per head.

There is already talk from some companies of "hiring in a ringer or two" to add some zip to their challenge?. .

On the other hand, Robert Hill has put in two boats with the express intention of making sure some non-sailing Lewmar people get some yacht racing experience.
